The rooms are well upholstered and substantially more stylish than in your average three star Florentine hotel. The fantastic value Hotel Centro is, as its name would suggest, is centrally located close to all of Florence’s major attractions. The hotel is housed within a Renaissance Palazzo which was formerly the residence of Raphael, who many feel is the greatest of all Renaissance painters. The perfect location for getting to know the San Lorenzo area of the city with its famous market and art galleries and churches (including of course the Accademia which houses Michelangelo’s sculpture of David).

The Annabella is a neat, basic but comfortable two star near the main train station of Santa Maria Novella and the remarkable Renaissance church of the same name. It is run by a Florentine family who have been in the hotel trade for over four generations. Stay here if you want good, basic value in a central location.

The Derby’s unique selling point is its prices which are amongst the most competitive in the city. That’s not to say they make compromises on the rooms or service, they don’t, and the hotel even has a lovely roof terrace where you can get panoramic views of the city. It doesn’t get much better for around €50 per night.

The Orcagna is a low cost two star hotel a little out from the centre but with excellent facilities, including private en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are reasonably spacious and have air conditioning unit, power-shower, TV and tasteful décor.
